We’re going back to the basics in our latest redesign.
If you’ve visited us regularly for a long time, you know that we expanded far beyond weather station reviews over the past half-decade. With the launch of Cirrusly Weather, we’re returning The Weather Station Experts to its roots: a review site. As you’ll notice, our reviews and buyer’s guides now take center stage sitewide.
We’ve also completely started from scratch, code and database-wise. All that came over from the original site was our content and imagery: we added things back in as needed. The reason for this is that over the past five years, whenever we updated the site, changed or removed something, some parts remained unchanged or left in the database. We’ve discovered code from three redesigns ago!
Over time, this adds up and begins to affect site performance. We are attempting to catch all the leftover code, but may miss some. If you see something that looks off, let us know!
You’ll also notice a change in how pages look based on the screen you’re viewing us on. Images and videos will use available screen space and adjust based on screen size. For the first time in nearly six years, our site’s overall design is mobile-first, meaning it’s optimized for small screens. With almost half of our traffic on mobile phones, it’s time to ensure an excellent experience for mobile users once and for all.
We’ve made some minor tweaks, including to our logo (a new font, Raleway), which allows us to keep our branding consistent across platforms. Text on the site is now at 18px, which makes it much easier to read.
Where Did All The Other Blogs Go?
They didn’t disappear; they’re just no longer accessible through the menu structure of our site. We’ll slowly be redirecting these blogs over to Cirrusly Weather as we republish them there. You’ll still also find them within links in our reviews. Not all content is moving: only the content that isn’t related to weather stations.
I should stress that the YouTube channel isn’t changing at all; we’re just refocusing the website.
Ensuring You Get the Best Deal and Service
You will also notice that where Cirrusly Weather carries a product line, we’re now directing you there instead of Amazon. This is already occuring with Maximum, Climalytic, and Taylor, where they’re listed. As we carry other brands, we’ll do the same.
The reason we’re doing this is that Amazon does not provide excellent customer service when it comes to weather instrumentation. In most cases, you’ll need support. By keeping you within our ecosystem, we ensure you’re getting the support and service that you deserve.
Of course, our product carriage on Cirrusly Weather does not affect our ratings. While we’ll of course carry stuff we rate high, we may not be able to carry everything. This might have the unintended effect of preventing us from carrying specific lines. Still, objectivity is crucial to us — and if a manfuacturer uses that as a reason to decline a reseller contract, we wouldn’t want it.
What Do You Think?
This is a huge change, especially for our readers who have been with us for years. But we think it makes sense. Cirrusly Weather was the culmination of a multi-year effort to start offering what we recommend directly to our readers. Having two sites essentially doing the same thing doesn’t make sense.
We do want to hear what you think of the new look. From the comments on our last redesign in 2023, you appreciated its cleanliness. This redesign takes that even further, returning the site to where it was nearly six years ago next February: the best (and most objective) spot on the web for weather station reviews.
Stay weatherwise, everyone, and thank you for five-plus years of support!
