About Our Awards
On some of our reviews, you may see a badge. The highest-rated devices are eligible for either one of two yearly awards, Editor’s Choice or Best Value. Here’s what they mean.
The Editor’s Choice Award is our top award, given to the top-rated device (and occasionally devices) in our metrics. An Editor’s Choice pick has superior functionality, durability, and reliability. We strongly recommend considering an Editor’s Choice pick if you’re looking for the best possible performance.
Often, these picks offer functionality that others don’t, or best-in-class functionality and connectivity, the latter especially important in today’s connected homes.
Editor’s Choice awardees are also eligible for the Best Value award if they offer superior value, and no cheaper alternative exists.
The Best Value Award is awarded to the device in a category with the best value. This doesn’t necessarily mean the cheapest model available: we look for a combination of functionality and low price when deciding which device gets this award.
If you’re looking for a good deal, turning your search to Best Value awardees ensures you save money while not sacrificing too much quality or functionality.
Our recommended badge is used for a few different types of products and situations:
- For non-weather products we review and recommend (for example, the Flexispot C7)
- For weather gadgets where an Editor’s Choice and Best Value exist, but we feel another should be highlighted
- Important recommendations (tips, advice, etc) that we want to draw your attention to.
Any of the above awards however indicate a superior product. We recommend at least one of your options include at least one of our awardees.
